Thorn Steafel. I’ve been working with labyrinths and mazes for about 25 years now and love sharing what I’ve learned with others.
Back in a dream when I was about 15, I was shown the four fold classical labyrinth by an alien man. He drew it on a stone for me,
and when I woke I sketched it quickly before the memory vanished. Instead of a cross at the centre, it had a human body. (Go figure that one.) That started my fascination with these patterns.
I’ve explored labyrinths in all my travels. I walked a two fold classical up the pathways ascending the Teotihuacan’s Pyramid of the Moon. I followed labyrinths in my mind, walking the Inca Trail. I was taught some beautiful mazes in an eucalyptus grove by its trees, on the lip of Rano Kao on Easter Island.
But you know what? You don’t have to go anywhere exotic to find enlightenment.
Spirit lives in concrete, as much as sky. The most powerful and beautiful labyrinths you might create are ones scribbled on coffee shop napkins, and carried crumpled from that moment on because they symbolise your belief that you are not alone, and that your life has purpose.
Whether we choose to work with labyrinths – or they choose us – is up for grabs. But I hope you’ll come along to a workshop or a free walk, to feel the magic for yourself.
